The purpose of the proposal and its anticipated effects, including any changes in existing rules:

Classify the Island Marble Butterfly as Endangered Wildlife. This would change WAC 220-610-010 to include Island Marble Butterfly among the other listed Endangered Wildlife.

Reasons supporting proposal:

The Island Marble Butterfly is on found on a hand full of locations on San Juan Island, a small fraction of its former range. A Status Report has been drafted summarizing the current status, distribution, threats and conservation challenges for the species which also recommends an Endangered Wildlife classification. Finally, the Island Marble Butterfly is already federally listed under the Endangered Species Act as Endangered and WAC 220-610-110 guides the Department to recommend an Endangered Classification when species are listed as Endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act.
